The Stanggassinger Formation House located at Kubease in the Ashanti region of Ghana under the Redemptorist Vice-Province of West Africa held its Alphonsian Week from 29th May to 4th June 2023. The celebration, which is a normal feature of the annual academic calendar of the formation house, was under the theme “The Missionary Work of St. Alphonsus and How We Can Implement it in Our Redemptorist Mission Today.”

The first day had an insightful talk delivered by Rev. Fr. Eugene Kodzo Adzaklu, C.Ss.R., on the theme. In his presentation, he encouraged the members of the community to uphold “the Redemptorist missionary identity St. Alphonsus passed on to us his spiritual sons as we learn from his example of the simplicity of lifestyle, pastoral mercy, and missionary dynamism.” This was followed by a series of questions, discussions, and contributions on the relevance and actualization of St. Alphonsus’ missionary legacy.

Other activities as part of the week-long celebration included a health talk on dietary habits and medical screening which was facilitated by a reputable health and medical practitioner; indoor and outdoor games such as volleyball and football that generated a lot of fun among the members of the; Triduum to St. Alphonsian; clean-up exercise of the formation house; home visitation of families around our community (Kubease and Hwereso), community outing and sight-seeing at Akosombo, excursion. The celebration climaxed with a Eucharistic celebration to thank God for the success of this celebration. The Superior of the Community, Rev. Fr. Pascal Wendpuire Tiendrebeogo C.Ss.R., expressed his gratitude to the entire community for making it possible to celebrate our great Founder and Saint.
