In Mozambique, the Redemptorists serve through four communities – three in the southern region of Mozambique and one in the Tete region, namely:
Mission in Southern Mozambique
- Xipamanine, Maputo
- Tsala, Matola, Maputo
- Muvamba, Inhambane
Founded by the Province of Buenos Aires (Argentina), the Mozambique Mission is present in Maputo, Muvamba, and Tsala (Matola), where it combines evangelisation, formation, and social outreach. The Redemptorists support vulnerable families through poverty-relief initiatives, educational scholarships, nutrition programs for children and mothers, and small-scale development projects.
A strong emphasis is placed on youth and vocation ministry, the formation of lay missionary groups, and fostering a vibrant spiritual life through prayer, novenas, missions, and devotion to Our Lady of Perpetual Help. The mission is also home to the Formation Community of Tsala, Matola, Maputo, which plays an important role in the formation of future Redemptorists.
In Muvamba, the mission partners with the Redemptorist Solidarity Office (RSO) in the implementation of the Water for All Development Project, an initiative aimed at improving access to clean and safe water for local communities.
In recent years, the mission has continued to strengthen its pastoral and social presence, responding to the needs of local communities while promoting faith, hope, and human dignity.

Mission in Tete
- Furancungo, District of Macanga
The Tete Mission, founded in 2011 by the Dublin Province (Ireland) and the Vice-Province of Fortaleza (Brazil), serves the remote border region between Mozambique and Malawi. Based in the Diocese of Tete, the mission focuses on accompanying the Chewa people, who live across several countries in Southern Africa.
Centered around Furancungo and the district of Macanga, the mission serves scattered Christian communities in an area long marked by a shortage of pastoral care. Recent visits and reports highlight the continued growth of the mission, the strengthening of local Church structures, and the commitment of the missionaries to evangelisation, catechetical formation, and accompaniment of rural communities in one of the most challenging pastoral regions of Mozambique.
