(Huambo, Angola) Two young Angolan Redemptorists Abel Lutene Cambueti, 34, and Faustino Hossi Valério, 28 were ordained priests on September 2, 2018, in Angola. Joaquim Tavares, of the clergy of the local diocese, was also ordained together with them in Huambo, by Archbishop Mons. José de Queirós Alves, a Redemptorist, who presided over the celebration. The event took place in the inner courtyard – packed with people! – of the parish of Our Lady of Fatima, in the city of Huambo (center of Angola) with the participation of about seventy priests, both diocesan and religious, and of the bishop of Dundo, northeast of the country.
Abel and Faustino did their initial formation up to the pre-novitiate in Angola and made the novitiate and theology in Burkina Faso, where they were ordained deacons. Like many other Angolans, the new priests are a ‘product’ of common formation projects that are now being consolidated throughout the Congregation. The joy of this collaboration was sealed by the presence of Redemptorists of Burkina especially by Fr. Sostène Bambara and Gabriele Ange Namouanau, a lay associate woman.
Fr. Abel and P. Faustino will carry out their ministry in the rural parishes of Vouga-Cunhinga (Our Lady of Perpetual Help) and Menongue (Most Holy Redeemer), respectively, where they were already assigned as deacons.
