Lent is a time for social action and spiritual growth. Prior to Lent we make resolutions as individuals and a community. We make choices to take on new things and abstain from others. We participate in all of the Lenten liturgies from Ash Wednesday until Holy Week.
Now, as we are at the beginning of Lent, we invite you to participate in our 2020 Lenten Fast. By participating in a 24 – hour fast, you stand in solidarity with those in the Global South who need our support. In just 1 day, you can take a stand against injustice and directly support our programmes in Africa and Madagascar. Once you have completed your fast, we invite you to organise a Solidarity Supper.
Below you will find our Lenten Fast Sponsorship Card and a Fasting Guidebook which can easily be downloaded and printed. The guidebook provides information around fasting, ideas for a Solidarity Supper to celebrate your fast as well as some reflective prayers and verses and space to record your thoughts throughout the day.
Why Fast?
It is part of our faith tradition; it challenges us and teaches us to be thankful for all that we have. Fasting is a spiritual practice and is a way to demonstrate solidarity with those who are hungry, living in poverty or oppressed.
How do I get involved?
It’s easy. By downloading our Lenten Fast sponsorship card, you can ask for contributions towards your goal. All money raised will support the Redemptorists work across Africa and Madagascar. Money can be lodged through the following ways:
