Redemptorist Solidarity Office (RSO) has worked with Mavambo Trust for over 15 years. Mavambo Trust is a Zimbabwean organisation working with Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) and caregivers in communities in the Harare area.
Through funding from Misean Cara’s Member Managed Grant (MMG), RSO is supporting the Mavambo Trust OVC Programme between 2025 and 2028.
The main aim of the project is to improve access to formal education, and retention in formal education, for OVC. For Mavambo Trust, access to education is one of the key pillars for improved lives of OVC. The project will provide an education catch-up programme for 144 OVC over 3 years, who will then be supported to enrol in formal school. Mavambo will also support up to 400 former graduates and other OVC to ensure that they remain in school. The other key pillar is strengthening of holistic community care structures, so that OVC receive adequate support in the home and in the community. This encompasses investing in training of 284 caregivers (e.g. parenting, income generation, HIV/AIDS, rights & entitlements), 80 community volunteers, access to counselling for almost 350 OVC, acquiring birth certificates for 60 OVC, access to healthcare for over 90 OVC and advocacy work to government structures on behalf of OVC and the target communities.
