Zimbabwe: Priestly Ordination of five Redemptorists in Mabvuku

The faithful in the Archdiocese of Harare, Zimbabwe, gathered at St Fidelis and Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish, Mabvuku on 23rd of May 2026 to witness a grand celebration for the priestly ordination of five redemptorist deacons.

Deacons Terrence Chigodora, Sylvester Kanjiwa, Elvis Chirara, Bothwell Chimhende and Noel Makoni were elevated to the order of priesthood. This was a joyous occasion for the Church and the Redemptorist Region in Zimbabwe as these men committed themselves to serve God after ten years of formation and discernment.

The Holy Mass was presided over by the Archbishop of Harare, Robert Christopher Ndhlovu together with our Redemptorist Bishop Raymond Mupandasekwa C.Ss.R., together with Redemptorists priests and other priests working in the archdiocese.

In his homily Fr. Casper Mukabva C.Ss.R., encouraged the brothers to remain steadfast to their calling and unite their call together with the fiat of Mary. The brothers were reminded that they are missionaries and they should be available to be sent wherever the Congregation see fit especially during this time when the Congregation is in the process of restructuring.

During the Litany, the brothers prostrated themselves as a way of surrendering themselves totally to God. In attendance was the Redemptorist Provincial of the London Province Fr. Richard Reid C.Ss.R., and his Vicar Fr. Elias Gweme C.Ss.R., who came from London and Scotland to witness this important occassion in the life of the Congregation.

In attendance also was the honourable Vice President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Retired General Dr Constantino Chiwenga a parishioner at our Parish St Gerard’s Borrowdale, together with other Government dignitaries. The liturgy was very vibrant as this was marked by hymns, ululations and dancing.

It was a moment of thanksgiving and gratitude for all present. The atmosphere brought spiritual joy as the Congregation celebrated the ordination of five new redemptorist priests. The ordination was deeply meaningful occasion for families and friends as they were filled with pride and gratitude.

As the new priests begins a new chapter as ordained ministers in the Church this serves as inspiration to many people especially to the young people who are discerning their path of life. The ordination was a blessing for the Congregation and the entire Church.

Fr. Emerson Machepa, CSsR.
