Ongoing formation within the Redemptorists of the Africa and Madagascar Conference (COREAM) remains central to a living commitment to renewal, responsible leadership, and the long-term sustainability of the mission. It is not a one-time effort, but a continuous process that nurtures both personal vocation and shared responsibility in service of the Congregation.
Across the Conference, formation initiatives are shaped to bring together professional competence, sound governance, and deep spiritual grounding. In this way, leaders and collaborators are better prepared to face contemporary challenges while staying rooted in the Redemptorist charism and missionary purpose.

This vision was clearly reflected during a formation gathering held in Nairobi, Kenya, in September 2024. The programme, led by Fr. Gerard O’Connor, C.Ss.R., a member of the General Government Finance Secretariat and Procurator for Africa and Madagascar, brought together Unit leaders and bursars from across the Conference. It offered a valuable space for exchange, learning, and reflection.
The initiative benefited from the active involvement of the Coordinator of COREAM and the careful logistical preparation of Fr. Noel Sottima. An important contribution also came from Sr. Georgette of the Donum Dei Sisters in Nairobi, whose experience in promoting sustainability within religious congregations added depth and practical insight to the discussions.

The formation focused on strengthening financial stewardship and implementing the Congregation’s new financial procedures. At the same time, it addressed broader themes such as sustainability, social entrepreneurship, and responsible resource management. Rooted in a holistic approach, the programme integrated moments of prayer, liturgy, and reflection, expressed across different languages and cultural contexts.
Through initiatives like this, COREAM continues to form leaders who are transparent, accountable, and mission-oriented – laying the foundation for a sustainable and hope-filled future for the Redemptorist presence in Africa and Madagascar.
