Kenya: Redemptorist family celebrates priestly & diaconate ordination in Nairobi

On Saturday, 28th February 2026, the Redemptorist family in Kenya joyfully gathered at Regina Caeli Parish in Karen, Nairobi, to celebrate a moment of grace and thanksgiving. On this special day, Deacons Samuel Waswa C.Ss.R., Patrick Otieno C.Ss.R., and Lawrence Kavita C.Ss.R., were ordained to the priesthood, while Bro. Beneditto Pacule C.Ss.R., was ordained to the diaconate. The sacred celebration was presided over by Bishop Mark Kadima, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Bungoma, who led the congregation in a solemn and prayerful Eucharistic celebration.

The ordination brought together members of the religious family, friends and Redemptorist lay partners who filled the church with joy and gratitude. The presence of distinguished guests added to the significance of the occasion, including Fr. Ivel Mendanha C.Ss.R, General Consultor; Fr. Noel Sotima C.Ss.R, COREAM Coordinator; Mission Superior Fr. Titus Mutiku C.Ss.R; and Fr. Marcelo Oscar Martinez C.Ss.R, who travelled from Mozambique to witness the diaconate ordination of the first Redemptorist Deacon from Mozambique.

Bishop Kadima informed the newly ordained that the priesthood is a special gift from God, entrusted not for personal glory but to be lived in, with, and for the community. He emphasized that this gift must be embraced with humility, especially in the face of human weakness, assuring them that God’s faithfulness always prevails.

In his address, Fr Ivel congratulated the newly ordained on this important step in their vocational journey and reminded them of their missionary identity as Redemptorists.

At the conclusion of the celebration, the newly ordained received their missionary appointments. Fr. Patrick Otieno C.Ss.R., was posted to St Mary’s Teges in the Catholic Diocese of Nakuru, Fr.  Lawrence Kavita C.Ss.R., was assigned to St Francis of Assisi Miyanga in the Catholic Diocese of Bungoma. Fr Samuel Waswa C.Ss.R., was appointed to Our Lady of Sorrows Kinungi in the Catholic Diocese of Nakuru, and Deacon Beneditto Pacule C.Ss.R., was posted to St Peter’s Lang’ata Women Prison Chaplaincy in Nairobi. These appointments mark the beginning of their pastoral ministry as missionaries committed to proclaiming the Good News where it is most needed.

As missionaries of hope in the footsteps of the Redeemer, they now go forth to serve the poor and the most abandoned with zeal, humility, and joy.
