Kenya: Fraternal Visit of the General Consultors Fr Paul Vinh C.Ss.R. and Fr Nicholas Ayouba C.Ss.R. to the Kenyan Mission

From 20th to 26th July 2025, the Mission of Kenya was blessed to receive the General Consultors of the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer, Fr. Paul Vinh, C.Ss.R. and Fr. Nicholas Ayouba, C.Ss.R. for a fraternal visit. Their arrival in Nairobi on Sunday, 20th of July marked the beginning of a deeply enriching experience for the Redemptorist family in Kenya. The visit sought to strengthen fraternal bonds, offer guidance, and encourage the mission and formation efforts in our region.

The Consultors met with Theologate and Philosophate students at the St. Alphonsus Community in Karen–Nairobi for a profound exchange. During this session, they shared updates on the current situation of the Congregation and the ongoing reconfiguration process across the global Redemptorist family. They emphasized the need for dedication and openness in formation, encouraging students to take seriously the journey of becoming Redemptorists—formed in the right way and rooted in the spirit of belonging. Central to their message were the three foundational pillars of Redemptorist identity: the centrality of Christ in personal and community life, a deep commitment to community life, and closeness to the poor and the most abandoned. These, they reminded the students, are essential for shaping the heart of a true Redemptorist missionary. They later met with the Confreres in Karen community.

The journey continued to the Iruma community, where the Consultors met separately with the Confreres and the Orientation Year students. These moments of personal and communal sharing offered space for reflection, dialogue, and encouragement. The next stop was the Kinungi community which has been also a home to the Novitiate. There, Fr. Paul and Fr. Nicholas spent time with the Novices and Confreres residing in the community, fostering a spirit of communion and support as they listened and responded to the realities and aspirations of the brothers in formation.

On 26th July 2025, the entire Kenyan Mission came together for the Mission Assembly held at the St. Alphonsus Community in Karen. This important gathering brought together all professed Redemptorists in Kenya, including students of Theology and Philosophy, in a spirit of fraternity, reflection, and dialogue. It was a meaningful space to assess, share, and strengthen the missionary journey of the Congregation in our local context.

The fraternal visit concluded with a solemn Holy Mass, presided over by Fr. Nicholas Ayouba, C.Ss.R., and concelebrated by Fr. Paul Vinh, C.Ss.R., Fr. Titus Mutiku, C.Ss.R., and other confreres present. The Mass was a fitting conclusion to a week filled with grace, insight, and fraternal presence.

This visitation was truly one of its kind—a rare and significant moment, given that the last such visit took place in 2012. It rekindled the missionary spirit, strengthened bonds among confreres, and affirmed the journey of formation and mission in Kenya. We remain deeply grateful to Fr. Paul and Fr. Nicholas for their dedication, wisdom, and fraternal love. We pray that the fruits of this visit may continue to blossom in the life and mission of the Redemptorists in Kenya.
