The Redemptorist Solidarity Office is pleased to mark the completion of the first year of implementation of the BCA School Access and Learning Programme in Andriaka, Madagascar. This milestone is a concrete expression of the Redemptorist vision: to stand with the poor and the most vulnerable, and to help create conditions where every child can learn, grow, and live with dignity.
In Andriaka, many children face serious barriers to education, including poverty, distance, overcrowded classrooms, limited sanitation facilities, disability, learning difficulties, and the vulnerability of girls. Through this project, the Redemptorist Vice Province of Madagascar is responding with a clear conviction: education can break the cycle of poverty and open a future of greater justice and opportunity.
During this first year, important progress has been made. Classroom construction has advanced, sanitation facilities are being strengthened, teachers have received support and training, and practical steps have been taken to improve safeguarding, inclusive education, and learning outcomes. The programme also addresses learning poverty by strengthening reading, writing, mathematics, Malagasy, and French, while promoting positive deviance by identifying and sharing good practices from schools and teachers achieving strong results in difficult contexts.
The programme also includes a climate resilience strategy to protect learning through safer infrastructure, improved sanitation, environmental stewardship, and better preparation for cyclones, heavy rains, drought, and difficult seasons.
This work is not only about buildings. It is about children finding a place in school, girls being encouraged to continue their education, children with disabilities being welcomed and accompanied, and teachers being supported to help every child reach their potential.
