Madagascar – BCA School Access and Learning Programme

The BCA School Access and Learning Programme is a three-year initiative (2025–2027) implemented by the Redemptorist Vice Province of Madagascar (RVPMA), with support from the Redemptorist Solidarity Office (RSO) and funding from Misean Cara’s Member Managed Grant (MMG). The project aims to improve equitable access to quality education for children from poor rural families in Andriaka, Madagascar, with particular attention to girls, children with disabilities, and those most at risk of being left behind.

The programme responds to low school completion rates, overcrowded classrooms, weak learning outcomes, and climate-related disruptions affecting education in the area. It will expand the Redemptorist Bienheureux Carlos Acutis (BCA) School from 432 to 800 students by constructing ten additional classrooms and fourteen sanitation facilities, ensuring safe, inclusive, and cyclone-resilient learning environments.

Beyond infrastructure, the project focuses on improving learning outcomes through targeted teacher training, remedial education, and monitoring of foundational skills in literacy and numeracy. Measures to reduce gender and disability-related barriers are integrated throughout the programme, alongside fee waivers and support for children from the poorest households.

Over the three-year period, the programme will directly support 620 children in Year 1,720 in Year 2, and 800 in Year 3, while strengthening parental engagement, school governance, and collaboration with district education authorities. Through this integrated approach, the BCA School Access and Learning Programme contributes to sustainable, community-owned solutions that promote dignity, inclusion, and long-term educational opportunity in rural Madagascar.
