Redemptorist missions in Burkina Faso

Burkina-Faso – As part of the Vice-province of Burkina-Niger the Redemptorists have been present in Burkina-Faso since 1946 and have two mission stations which engage in evangelisation. We work with large numbers of catechumens in numerous remote villages and train catechists who work with many Muslims and Animists.

We promote various development works such as primary schools, water supplies, agriculture and health as well as the promotion and defence of women through the struggle against circumcision and forced marriage.

We helped to found diocesan churches and the first bishop of Fada N’Gourma was a Redemptorist. We also serve as chaplains in two Redemptoristine convents.

Together with neighbouring Niger we have three houses of formation and as well as large numbers of young men from Burkina-Faso we also receive those from Niger, Benin and Togo. We also host the noviciate for those novices from Democratic Republic of Congo, Angola and Madagascar.
