Angola

In Angola, there are six Redemptorist communities, namely:

• Luanda
• Kuito-Bié
• Huambo
• Humpata
• Menongue
• Vouga

The Redemptorists have been present in Angola since 1954 and today serve through six communities within the Vice Province of Luanda. Their mission combines evangelisation with social outreach, responding to the needs of people affected by poverty, marginalisation, and the long-lasting consequences of war.

The Redemptorists provide pastoral care in urban, suburban, and rural areas, including the Holy Family Parish in Luanda, while also supporting vulnerable groups such as street children and displaced families. In the rural mission areas of Vouga and Menongue, missionary activity has expanded following the end of the armed conflict, contributing to the rebuilding of local communities through pastoral ministry, education, healthcare, and human development initiatives.

Formation remains a central priority of the mission. The Vice Province collaborates with other Redemptorist units in Africa and continues to invest in the training of future missionaries through its formation houses, including St. Alphonsus Seminary in Huambo.

In January 2023, the Vice Province held its 17th Vice-Provincial Chapter in Huambo under the theme “Redemptorist Life and Mission in Angola in the Light of the 26th General Chapter.” During the assembly, Fr. Celino Ndulo was elected Vice-Provincial Superior for the 2023–2026 term, reaffirming the commitment of the Redemptorists in Angola to mission, formation, and service.
